Garden Steps :: Block One

Questions? Missed a post? Find the index here.

Well, it may be a day late, but block one is finally done!  Topiary trees are one of the things that embody gardens to me.  As a result, I thought they would make a great first embroidery.  I’ve kept this one simple for all the beginners, but the more advanced {or adventurous} stitchers are welcome to add more details.  Feel free to embelish.

Also, if you’re new to embroidery or need a refresher, check out my introductory series, Embroidery 101.

Download the first block here.

I used a simple back stitch around the flower pots and the edge of the trees.  I filled in the tree stems with satin stitch on the diagonal to give it a different look.  The trees are filled with cross stitch {which I just realized I don’t have a tutorial for…but if you just follow this one and make only one “x”, that’s perfect!} and french knots.  Finally, the dragonflies are lazy daisy and running stitch!

Garden Steps :: Block One Detail

I am debating going back to add some more detail…but we’ll see how that goes.  I will post a photo update if I do!  Enjoy!

    If I can figure out how to crochet those little purses I will let you know that you should try it. I am definitely a beginner, so we’ll see what happens. Thanks so much for visiting and commenting!
