Blogger’s Quilt Festival :: Castle Peeps Toddler Quilt

Amy's Creative Side

If you’re a quilter, you know this weekend is Quilt Market, fortunately, for those of us who can’t make it, Quilt Market means its also time for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival, yay!  If you’re unfamiliar, hop over to Amy’s Creative Side and you’ll see an array of beautiful quilts!

This year I’d like to show a quilt that’s been finished for some time, but that I never got around to photographing, Silas’s toddler bed quilt:

I used a simple stretched star block, with solid gray and Castle Peeps by Lizzy House for Andover.

The binding is Kona Lime because Castle Peeps was getting hard to find by the time I actually finished the quilt.

I was glad to find a few yards of the lime green castles for the border and back though, especially since green is Silas’s favorite color!

I also added a strip of Kona Lime to the back to make the backing stretch!  It is quilted in diagonal lines for easy and softness.  This quilt measures about 46″ x 60″, and that seems to be about the perfect size for a toddler bed {or in this case…a crib mattress on the floor}.

And here’s his cute toddler bed set up, truck pillow and all!  I think one of my favorite things about this quilt is that is so perfect for my little boy, I struggle with finding cute boy fabrics that aren’t too baby-ish.  And he loves it {and drags it all over the house!}.  Thanks for visiting!

  1. I love this quilt. I agree that it is hard to find something cute for boys. I have always struggled with that. When I see a fabric I love I usually grab it for the future quilts for the boys. You did a wonderful job. I’m glad he loves it!

  2. I remember the in-progress picture for this quilt! It came out really cute! I really like the solid green binding — it seems like the perfect complement to all the castles in the border. 🙂

  3. That is the perfect ittle boy quilt. Little boys are practicing to be men…what better example that an armor clad knight rescuing a madden fair? (My guys loved to play knights and dragons.)

Has he had the quilt for very long? I’m discovering lately that my guys seem to love the things that they can’t remember from early childhood….like infancy. My oldest, now nearly 20, loves the story of Peter Pan. I read it to him when he was only a few days old. My middle boy has always loved, “Away in a Manger.” it was the lulaby I sang to him (Only song
I could remember all of the words to.). I’m a little worried how this will translate to my youngest. He is 6 years younger than my oldest and spent his infancy strapped in a car seat screaming while I prayed to God that he would pass out and stop screaching before I went insane.

  4. Oh Jennie, I love this one! I especially like that you made the star points in the solid. I have only ever made it the other way. I also love how sometimes the simplest designs have the most impact visually (and are often the most loved).

  5. Such a fun quilt! And I love how it looks with the fabulous truck pillow! I’m kicking myself that I didn’t grab more of that green castle print for myself– it looks amazing in the border and on the back. Lucky Silas! 🙂

  6. I love it! Karina’s toddler bed quilt no longer fits her bed since we moved the double bed in there so we could set up Elena’s crib. But it’s folded up on her bed and she’s currently snuggling under my old quilt that is many years old. Eventually I’ll get around to making her a new one, and one for Elena, too.

  7. what a great quilt for a little boy. and to have a matching pillow case is perfect! thanks for sharing and have a great day. (on another note…is the garden steps quilt along, still open? i’d love to be part of it!)
