Good Reasons…

…not to sew while you’re also supposed to be baking!

Last night, in preparation for Thanksgiving dinner, I made a pumpkin pie. My sweet husband helped with the pie, and while we were pouring the filling, he suggested that we reduce the cooking time because of our shallow pie dish. But, since our oven has a break in the glass on the inside, I ignored his warning, thinking the oven wouldn’t stay hot enough {perhaps you can guess where this is going…}.

Then, while the pie was in the oven, I decided to work on a project, so I made Norah a little bunting for her birthday out of my Sew Lux Bundle:

I checked the pie a couple times and all seemed well.  So, I just kept on sewing!  Except that when the timer beeped, this is what I found:

Ah!  I have never claimed to be an excellent cook…  Maybe next year I should volunteer to make some sewn items instead!  Hehe.  I guess this is proof I’d much rather be at the sewing machine.

Isn’t that the great thing about good friends?  The chance to laugh about the mistakes along the way.  And maybe to share a little bit of burnt pie.  And still be thankful for all the blessings we have.  Hope you have a  Happy Thanksgiving, because whether you’re in a place that celebrates it as a holiday today or not, hopefully you have much to be thankful for!

It’s just caramelized right? :) One year we made a pie with a pie crust mix without realizing that it had gone rancid. Everything looked good, but one bite was enough to convince me that it would present a serious health hazard to anyone who ventured to eat it. Yay for store-bought pie!

Oh, don’t worry about it. One time my friend and I were making key lime pie for her husband’s birthday. We had to make it 3, yes 3 times because we messed it up so much! But it was the fun of being with my friend. I’m sorry your pie didn’t turn out, but the bunting is adorable! I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!

I’ve been so distracted lately, I was *THISCLOSE* to putting the pumpkin pie in the oven, when my son asked when I was going to put the sugar in… I’m just glad he was paying attention.
