Let’s Go Bizzy Kid {Quilt Finish}

Bizzy-Kid-1

This quilt has been over a year in the making, one reason I usually make much smaller projects, the big ones take me forever {well, most things take me forever these days, but I’m okay with that!}.  The quilt pattern is Bizzy Kid by Cluck, Cluck, Sew {you can read all about this quilt process here}.

This is also the first quilt I’ve had quilted by a long arm quilter!  I sent it to my friend Cindy, who I met through Flickr swaps {I always admired her swap projects!}, and she suggested this traffic quilting pattern.  While I originally thought I wanted some simple circles or something, I knew this was the right pattern for the quilt and for my boy!

And I think he agrees!  Just look at that smile!  I was so excited to get it on his bed that I didn’t take any photos before it was washed and crinkled, but he’s been sleeping under it every night.  And, it goes perfectly with the pillowcase my mom made him!

For the back I used some Daisey’s Dates from Reunion by Sweetwater and Snickerdoodle from Vintage Modern by Bonnie & Camille.  I think it is the perfect combo.

And, because Cindy is so sweet, she sent a baby quilt for Lydia too!  I tried to get a good picture of her on it, but she was busy squirming, so this one will have to suffice.  Don’t you love how it matches her jammies?

I’m so excited to have a quilt on Silas’s bed!  One of my goals is to make a quilt for every bed in my house.  It’s a slow project, but I’m working on it.  Do you sleep under a quilt {or do your kids?}?

  1. Jennie, it’s wonderful!! I really, really love the transportation quilting. It really completes the quilt.

I, too, have a goal of eventually making a quilt for each of our beds. So far, I’ve finished quilts for Master W. and Miss C. Eventually, I plan to make matching quilts for Miss C. and Little Miss C. – when Little Miss C. is old enough for a big girl bed and they’re sharing a room. And then maybe I’ll finally get to a quilt for our bed!

  2. It is a wonderful quilt and the baby quilt is lovely too! How nice that you got it done just as winter is arriving. In fact, everyone in this house has a quilt or two that I made to sleep under, and one of the two kids who live away have a quilt, the other is in progress. But I now I am thinking that we all might need another.

  3. This turned out so cute, Jennie! Your adorable son looks so happy sitting on it. It has been my goal to make everyone a Christmas quilt. I have ours done but have two more to go. I hope to make my son’s over the weekend but it’s a queen size so it may take longer than I thought. He is turning 23 shortly and I miss those days where I could make a smaller quilt for a smaller boy. 🙂

  4. Yea! What a great finish – I love the colours and the quilting totally suits it.
My kids all sleep under a quilt I made but we don’t. It’s such a big project that I need to be really excited about the fabric and pattern and I still haven’t been inspired. One day!
Oh – and you’re not the only one who takes a year to make a big quilt 🙂

  5. Gorgeous! Love the pillow with the letters and it looks so neat. My kids have each two quilts. The two oldest use them each night in bed and is really hard to get them to be washed.

  6. The quilt looks great!

Yes, a quilt is a big undertaking but totally worth it! We all sleep under quilts (all 7 of us) that I made. It is a satisfying feeling when tucking the kids in and when making the beds in the morning!

  7. Silas’ quilt is absolutely adorable. I just got back the first quilt I sent to a longarm quilter, and I wonder why I haven’t done it sooner. I know I can quilt my own quilts, but for a big project, I certainly can’t do it as well or as quickly. (And, I dislike the quilting part so much, things can sit unfinished for years…)

My son has a quilt on his bed, and there is one on the bed in the guest room. I’ve not had the motivation or time to make one for our room.

  8. My boys both sleep under quilts I made them and my husband and I sleep under a giant king-size quilt I made. I grew up sleeping under quilts my grandmother made. I appreciate them more now that I’ve made my own!

  9. Yay for gratuitous baby (and child) photos!

The quilt turned out amazing! How can anyone even quilt a pattern like that? That’s incredible! I sleep under a fake quilt. It’s sort of a quilt, but without the properly quilted part. 🙂

    Hope everyone is doing well!

  10. I love reading your blog. Yes every bed in our house has a quilt made by me. For Christmas I am working on new updated big girl quilts for my girls – age 3 and 4. They both had crib size quilts, now they need single bed ones. I think I enjoy them sleeping under these quilts more then they do. You did beautiful job on the quilts for your kiddos.

  11. Your kids are adorable, and I love their quilts! What a fun quilting pattern on the quilt for Silas, too. I have to admit that only our dog has a quilt. Ahem. I have a big, not quite queen sized quilt, that has flannel backing & since he sleeps on our bed, I turn the flannel side up so he gets a bit of extra warmth. It is my goal for next year that everybody gets a quilt for Christmas & I’m going to try to make them big enough for their beds.

  12. Oh my goodness, Silas is so grown up! I’m pretty sure he was just a baby when I first started following you. Now look at him!
Yep, I always sleep under a quilt. I’ve got one made by me, on made by my MIL, and two from my grandmas. I love it! My twins are almost two now and I know they won’t be in cribs forever. I’m really looking forward to making cute quilts for them when they move to toddler beds, but I just don’t have a clue where to start! Fabric? Pattern? I was hoping they’d be old enough to have preferences of their own before I make that decision. Is Norah already in a bed of her own? What does she sleep under?

  13. Yes, we all sleep under homemade quilts. I have been quilting for 12 years though, and my eldest child is 10, so I’ve had a few more years to get one on her bed. I love the quilt you made for Silas, the design and colours. I’m going to look up the pattern!

  14. Don’t worry, by the time the kids are old enough to know you will have all of the beds covered and then some. My boys have closet shelves devoted to their quilts, and they are still asking for more. (The best is when they tell me that their poor poor friend has no one to quilt for them and wouldn’t I make one for them too.)
