Bee Block Catch Up :: March

Happy Monday!  I caught up another month of bee blocks over the weekend.  First, here’s my block for Amy {A Quilting Sheep} for the Sew Sweet Bee.  Amy requested that we make our initial from the Spell it with Fabric tutorials.  She specifically asked that we make it represent us, so, obviously, I went for scrappy patchwork.  I used my favorite aqua print {Quirky from Ruby by Bonnie & Camille for Moda} for the “J” and then a variety of low volume for the background.  Since the sashing was a bit of an odd size {1 1/2″ on the right} I used a white on white crosshatch.  I hope she likes it!

For the Modern Stitching Bee, Di {Random Thoughts Do or Di} requested a Low Volume with a bright/citrus/jewel toned plus in the center.  She asked that we look at the group pool to help get an even color range.  Since there seemed to be fewer cool colors, I made one aqua block and one blue/green.

I really like how they turned out, it makes me kind of wish I’d asked for prints for my scrappy star quilt!

I love the look of the low volume background that seems to be so popular these days. I cannot help but wonder if it is a quilting phase we’re going to love forever, or if one day we’ll look back and wonder what we were thinking. I’m not usually one to get carried away with trends {I’m not that exciting}, but this is one I plan to keep loving it and using, because it adds so much texture and depth to the colors. Maybe we’ll instead wonder how it didn’t get to be popular sooner!

Love all the blocks especially the J. The colour combinations are great and I think aqua is definately my favourite colour at the moment expecually when it is used with a grey or low volume prints.
