On the Go Bags (Dec. 2015, Stash Books)

Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for On the Go Bags—15 Handmade Purses, Totes & Organizers by Lindsay Conner and Janelle MacKay (Stash Books). I was so excited when Lindsay and Janelle asked me to contribute a project to this book, I love bags with a purpose, and this is an amazing collection of them. The book is available this month at CTPub.com and January 7th on Amazon! Add it to your holiday wishlist now, and comment below for your chance to win a copy!

Here’s a small sampling of the projects in the book:

11133_husseyThe Padded Bag Insert by Samanthy Hussey is something I’d readily make and use. I’m always hesitant to make or invest in a full camera bag, because I don’t want to commit to one fabric, size, or style. With this insert, any bag is turned into the perfect camera bag, and it can easily be swapped from one bag to the next.

11133_curtisI use a variety of different bags and organizers in my minivan, but this Mom’s Minivan Organizer by Sara Curtis is a fabulous alternative, it will hold and organize everything, instead of having it all floating around and hard to find!

111333_connerI love that Lindsay Conner’s Travel Toiletry Organizer has a couple expandable pockets without being too over-sized. It has just enough space to hang the important things, without being too flat to fit it all. Perfect for traveling with the essentials plus a bit extra.

11133_pickettAnd this is my project from the book: the Snap-and-Go Sewing or Art Case. I had been wanting a sewing case with interchangeable pockets because I am always changing my mind about which project I’ll bring to work on while I’m out (3 kids = lots of waiting!), so I designed this case with pockets that snap out so I can keep all the projects ready, without unpacking my bag (or having too many). Here’s a photo of the inside too:

Sewing-Organizer-InsideI hope you’re as excited about this book as I am, here’s the rest of the blog tour schedule:

  17. In daily life, I strive to only carry one reasonable sized bag. But with three kids, it can be a challenge. My favorite bag is anything that can carry EPP projects!

    Best wishes,
    Sara

  24. I love bags with lots of pockets! That art/sewing organizer looks amazing! I think the trunk organizer will probably be first on my list tho…

  25. I definitely need the snap n go case ~ it would be perfect to carry my current hand sewing projects that I like to bring to quilt guild meetings and sew days at my BFF’s. I always have 2 or 3 projects I’m working on but don’t want to bring them all.

  26. The most useful bag I’ve made to date is Noodlehead’s Envelope Clutch. It is big enough to hold my phone & all my cards/cash when I need something small to grab for quick errands (rather than lugging around my big Super Tote – also super handy). I’d LOVE to make one of the art cases you designed – that is such a clever idea!!

  27. All the bags posted look just amazing. A little birdie told me that I am getting a much-longed-for camera with lenses for Christmas, so the bag shown with the padded inserts would be perfect! Mom’s Minivan carryall would also be so useful (even though it would have to be Grandma’s Caryall in my case!)

  28. I always say you can never have too many tote bags, but for day to day, a good handbag is essential, especially one with two outer pockets, one for my sunglasses and one for my readers!

  29. I like cross body bags with lots of pockets-that is my dream bag! Love all of the bags that you showcased, can’t wait to make them! Thanks for the great giveaway! vickise at gmail dot com

  30. I love them all but I’d have to start with the art tote. I think it’d be very handy for those spare moments I can get a craft fix ?.

  31. Love the minivan organizer too! But KNOW my Daughter would like the camera bag one. I love shoulder bags?totes! Soooo much easier to keep track of other things & Grankiddo’s too! lol

  32. I use a simple tote in the Army ACU pattern; it has wonderful ribbon ruffles and bows, gives it a girly look. I can carry the bag in uniform and put it on my shoulder without violating uniform regulations.

  33. Wow! Love all the projects you featured in your blog, but especially like your art case. I personally love cross-body bags with lots of pockets to keep everything neatly organized and my hands free.

  34. I love making bags I usually make a new bag when I travel from Australia to Europe . I think the grey across the body bag is great . I also love the art tote . Love your website and blog ,will look at you on Instagram

  35. Hi there Jennie ans Clara,
My most favorite bag is one that has lots of pockets, inside and out. I do have several zip pouches I use for carrying hand projects around, so I think that craft travel case would really fit the bill.
    Thanks!

  36. Duffles are the most useful for me…my husband and I often go away for just a day or two so need a bag to hold just a couple of changes and essentials.

  37. I love all of the bags! The SUV organizer would be great to make! And I’d have to have the Snap and Go sewing or Art case for “projects to go”

  38. I always have to have a shoulder bag big enough to carry everything. I am always running errands and stuff. Love the sling and tablet bags.

  39. Hi Jennie! I immediately fell in love with the bag on the cover of the book. I need that one Pronto! The other projects look fun as well, but my favorite is that one! Thanks for the chance!

  40. A cross body bag, as I have a small frame and osteoporosis. So it keeps the weight just right on me bones:)

  41. I love all purses ! I carry a crossbody for everyday use, but you always need something pretty for special occasions.

  42. I like medium size bags with a cross-body strap so I can wear it while wrangling my two young kids. I also like a zip top because my bags often find themselves tipped upside down or dropped down quickly, durable fabrics as my younger goes to preschool in the woods so my bags have to be able to stand up to being set down in the dirt, and I like lots of pockets for organization.

  43. How could I pick just one type of bag! I use bags for everything. Guess I am a bag lady! I love making bags for everything. Bags make it easier to carry things for my crazy kids!
