Sewing Machine Pincushion :: Sew Illustrated Blog Tour

|

sew-illustrated-1Hello and welcome to my stop on the Sew Illustrated Blog Tour! Sew Illustrated is the new book by  Minki Kim and Kristin Esser for C&T Publishing, filled with thread drawing techniques and projects. I’ll admit, while I was excited to give this a try, I was also nervous about the result. So, I chose to cut out fabric for my design, and then get more comfortable with the idea of thread drawing. I was surprised how easy this came together!

Sew Illustrated

I chose to make that cute little pincushion from the book cover, and I used some of my precious Liberty of London fabric, because the tiny florals were just begging to be cut into the shape of a sewing machine. I chose a bright pink thread to highlight the bit of pink in the blue fabric (and because I couldn’t find my black thread!). And then a pink elastic and pink backing fabric.

If you’ve wanted to try thread drawing, then this book is definitely for you. The instructions are clear and the projects are really cute. I am anxious to make a few more projects for my new sewing room, once I finish settling in. Since this is one of the last posts on the blog tour, make sure you take a minute to check out all the other inspiring projects.

  1. Using the pink thread is a refreshing look to thread drawing as most of the projects use black thread. I like your idea! It just goes to show how these projects can be interpreted differently and creativity has not boundaries! I’m hoping to win this book and make a few of these projects myself!
