About Clara

I come from a tradition of handmade. When she grew up in the southwest, my mother made all of her own clothes, and continued to do so for herself and for my siblings and me when we were children. I passed that tradition on to my own family, sewing most of my children’s clothes when they were young, and home decorating projects as well. Now that I have a (nearly) empty nest, I find that I have more time to sew creatively, and have turned our family office into a sewing room. I have a love of beautiful fabrics, trims, and notions, and try to find new and creative ways to use them together.  Although this current venture is focused on baby items, I have also been creating some new home décor and accessories, so soon you may see another little shop filled with table runners, wall hangings, knitting needle holders, and other things!

A couple of years ago, after living in Washington State my whole life, my husband, Stan, and I made a career move to the Washington, D.C. area, and have since settled in central Virginia. While it has sometimes been difficult leaving everything I know behind, it has been exciting and new as we’ve gotten to explore not only the Virginia and D.C. area, but all of the east coast. The heat has been an interesting adjustment, but it is nice to see the sunshine so often and not be bogged down by so much rain. Our son, Brandon, also lives at home with us while he plants his roots planted in the Virginia area.

In addition to spending time in my sewing room, I am also an avid gardener, and most of my spare time is spent in the yard. In turn, I find much of my inspiration comes from the beauty of flowers, plants, leaves, and birds. In addition, I enjoy any opportunity to travel with Stan to many different states on his business trips, and gather inspiration (and fabric) from the many places we get to explore.
