Stash Project: A New Beginning

We’re going to try something a little bit new this month for our stash projects and see how it goes.  On the first of the month you’ll find this post with a linky at the bottom for you to link up to your projects made from your stash.  The linky will be open the entire month, allowing you to link up at any time.  When linking up, please only link to specific blog posts or Flickr photos {all other links will be deleted}.

Your post should include either the Stash Project button or a link back to the linky you are participating in.  Also, we’d love to know what fabrics you are using from your stash.

If you’re linking up we’d appreciate it if you visit at least one other.  At the start of every month we’ll also feature a few of the projects from the previous month.

So, what have you been making with your stash?

Stash Project Remembered (and a few other things)

I know I keep saying this, but this last month really seems to have gotten away from me somehow.  I have a small pile of winnings that still need to be mailed off, and I’ve finally drawn a winner from the August Stash Project, so I wanted to announce that too!

Congrats to Suz of Patchwork N Play who shared her Swirling, Twirling Whirlygig with us {hmm, I think I need one of those Lil’ Twister rulers…I keep seeing them around and loving the result!}.

And, just for contiunity sake, here’s a screen shot of the RNG picking Suz’s number!

Oh, and if you missed it, take a minute to check out some of the other great Stash Projects from August’s linky.

Now, in the spirit of catching up, I’m skipping the Stash Project for September and moving straight on to October! However, when the October project is posted {sometime around the 15th, I hope}, everyone will be welcome to post a project from September or October. {And if you’re new here and want more info, click here for the Stash Project details!}.

I also wanted to give a little reminder that there is still time to join the Wantobe Quilter Campaign over at Sew We Quilt, and if you’re in need of a sponsor, you can read more details here. This is a fun opportunity to read some great guest posts, tutorials, and {of course} win some great tools to get you started or keep you quilting!

Stash Project: June

I know this is a little late, but better late than never, right?  I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise that the Stash Project and Stitch & Quilt Along go hand in hand {okay, I admit, I designed it that way…}, but, you remember that gorgeous fabric my mom is using for her project?  Well, it’s stash fabric.  We’ve had the bundle for quite a while, and it’s finally becoming a beautiful quilt.

Here’s her first finished block, don’t you love it?  Maybe I’m a little bit biased, but I tell you, my mom is the one who started my embroidery obsession, so I guess it’s fitting that I love her embroidery!  I’m kind of wishing I was making my quilt out of the same fabric, maybe I can talk her into trading **wink**!

And, for all you participating in the Stitch & Quilt Along, she’s a bit ahead of me, here’s a sneak peek at the design for block two:

If you made something using your stash this month and you’d like to share it with us us, please link up below and you’ll be entered for a chance to win a pack of Sunkissed charm squares (click here for a good look at the collection!)!

When linking up, please make sure to follow our few simple rules, and visit some of the other great stash projects too! The giveaway will close when the linky closes, on July 5th {since I’m late in posting this, I’m giving you a few extra days to enter!}.

Interruptions

Wonderland Pincushion
Our Pincushion was featured in Flickr’s Explore!

Things have been a bit crazy around here as of late.  Silas was tested around his birthday for lead, and to our complete shock, he had very high levels.  Through a bunch of tests, and eventually testing our house, we discovered all our beautiful sun rooms are painted with lead paint, which was painted over during renovations, but the new paint has started to peel, leaving us exposed to lead.

We’re working on getting things all taken care of, and Silas is no longer staying at the house, but it’s also thrown a wrench into things.  I will try to keep blogging, but my posts may be a little scattered  However, I’ll be back tomorrow with the winner for the Stash Project {there’s still time to submit yours!} and the start of a new giveaway!  There’s still time to enter your creation and if you’re looking for something else fun, consider joining one of our lovely friend’s Pay It Forward.  Hope your week is off to a great start.  I’m off to the quilt shop for a little retail therapy in the midst of the madness!

Winner!

Just a quick post to congratulate Canadian Kristin on winning our giveaway of the Brooklyn bag pattern, Fandango charm pack and fabric yard!  Thanks to everyone for entering, and a special thank you to our followers, new and old.  We’re working on more new and fun things for you on the blog!  We’d encourage you to join our Stash Project this month for another chance to win some fabric by showing us what you’ve made with yours!  Happy sewing.

Stash Project: December

The year is almost up, and I did a pretty good job with my Stash Projects, I only missed one month!  As a result, I think I’m going to keep it up for the next year, and I’d love for some of you to join me {if you’d like}.  It really is a great way to work through that fabric that was oh-so-tempting in the quilt shop, but didn’t really have a purpose.  I’m hoping to put together a few stash clearing tutorials {maybe one a month? if I can keep it together!} too.  Since I know we’re moving {again} this summer, I’m hoping to use a good portion of the fabric I’ve got stashed away {besides, then I may just have to buy new to replace it!}.  Anyway, here is my project for this month, I bought the fabric on sale last Christmas, and finally used it!
I had planned some subway tile Christmas stockings when I bought the fabric, and it only took me a year to make them.  I’ve seen quilted stockings around online, but did my best to make mine unique {and there will be a pattern soon…if you’re interested in getting an early start on next year – while the fabric is on sale}.  I purposely mismatched Silas’ stocking {like I said before}, that way the future mismatched ones will match {hehe}.  I can’t believe it’s almost time to take the Christmas decorations down…I already cannot wait until next year!

Charming Baby Quilt

{Silas & Friend Tony Go for a Car Ride}
Have you ever wished you could make a cheap affordable quilt out of designer fabric?  Well, I’ve got a super easy one for you today.  You’ve seen peeks of these quilt before in my June and July Stash Projects, and here are a few directions to go along with them!  You will need:
1 Charm Pack (42 – 5″ squares)
1/4 yard inner border
1/2 yard outer border
1 1/4 yard backing
1/3 yard binding

Arrange your Charm Squares into the desired order, six across and seven down, then sew them together.  I prefer to sew the short rows, pressing the seams in alternating directions on each row.  Then sew the rows together to create the quilt top.

Cut four 2 inch strips for the inner border.  Sew one strip to each side of the quilt, then one to the top and bottom.  Repeat for the larger boarder with 3 1/2 inch strips.

Your quilt top is finished!  Then layer your backing, batting, and top, quilt as desired, and bind with 2 1/2 inch strips.  Enjoy an easy way to make a special little quilt without breaking the bank for each new arrival!  At the rate my friends are having babies, I’m going to be making a lot of these!

Note:  This pattern is for personal use only, not for resale or commercial use.
