Blogger’s Quilt Festival :: Fall 2012
Quilt Market is this weekend, which means it is also the Blogger’s Quilt Festival, yay! If you’re new to the festival, you’re in for a treat. Head over to Amy’s Creative Side to take a peek at the amazing quilts that will be showcased on quilt blogs all over the place!
There are also lots of generous sponsors, so if you haven’t entered a quilt, the linky is open through October 31st! In addition, Amy is asking for nominations for best quilts in certain categories, so keep that in mind when visiting quilts at the festival.
Now, on to my entry. Since I shared my little boy’s toddler bed quilt last time, I thought it seemed perfect to share the mini quilt I made for my little girl this time around {I know some of you have seen this one already, but I love it so much I thought I’d share again}:
The center portion is a little embroidery design I stitched up, buntings, flowers and dragonflies are some of my favorite things, and I hope maybe they’ll be hers too. I also made my first attempt at hand quilting on the body of the quilt with some white perle cotton size 8 {it turned out to be more like embroidery though, as I was not able to get the rocking motion down, not this time at least}.
I used some of my favorite fabrics on this little quilt, and a couple of them I didn’t have very much of, so it worked out perfectly to use the scraps and still get to showcase the prints, instead of them being swallowed by a larger scrap quilt.
Even though my stitching didn’t turn out very even on the back, I hope it is something my little girl will treasure, because I made it for her. Before finishing it up, I added a couple hanging pockets, and I use a little dowel to hang it on her wall. I learned about these not that long ago, and have been adding them to all my hanging mini quilts since then. I hope as my little girl gets older she may want to use it as a doll quilt too, but for now, it seems best on the wall {otherwise it might get chewed on!}.
As much as I enjoy making things for other people, I really get the most enjoyment out of making them for my children. I hope someday they can look back and see all the things their mom made them out of love!
