A Churn Dash Quilt For A Baby Girl

It’s Friday and I have a little something to show for this week in my sewing room. You know how it goes, you have big plans but only a small amount of them are actually accomplished. I am happy to have been able to sew quite a lot but only finished partials. Like this new baby quilt for our next precious little grand- daughter, who will be making her appearance soon!

I used this tutorial for the blocks.

Churn Dash #!!DSC_0797 I have chosen a few of the blocks to show off individually! I had a little bit of a quandary choosing the layout of the blocks  when I was only using the solids that came with the bundle. When we began talking about a new quilt for the baby Jennie  mentioned that she would like aqua, purple and grey in the babies color scheme, but no grey in this bundle or in the print!!

Churn Dash #3DSC_0799 I began piecing and putting colors together without the grey, then I decided just to go ahead and add the grey solid. I am glad that I did because I do like the way it is looking. The layout here is just about where I want it to be.

Here it is the way I plan to sew it together with a white sashing.

This is the fabric I have for the borders,  the backing and the binding. This is such cute fabric it is Little Matryoshka by Carly Griffith for Riley Blake. It is just so sweet!! I am just not so sure about borders yet. Any suggestions?

I am happy with the way this little quilt is turning out, I hope mommy and baby like it too!!

Have a great weekend and I am going to post one more small project, well not so small, but anyway you will see, tomorrow!!

  1. So, so pretty, Clara!! The Churn Dash block is on my list to make. It’s one of my favorite blocks but I have nothing made with it. Maybe a Christmas wall hanging.

  2. This is so pretty! I am still trying to decide how I want to make my daughter’s quilt. I had better decide while she is still a baby! What are the other fabrics that you used? I really like the floral prints.

  3. Hi Clara, looking good so far. I like the spots for the border, you already have lots of flower prints in the blocks and the doll print is directional so it might work better as the backing unless you have enough to cut in both directions for the borders.

  4. you were right to use the grey, it’s perfect. This will be such a sweet quilt. I’m not sure about the borders, maybe you could show us again when it’s sashed and it might be easier to see what the borders should be?
