Bedside Basket {tutorial update}

dresser

I shared a picture on Istagram yesterday of the baskets I have on Norah and Lydia’s dresser and a few people asked about them, so it seemed like now was a good time to share! I did the Beside Basket tutorial for Sew Lux almost two years ago…but I see these baskets everyday, so I sometimes forget that they might be new to you!

Additionally, yesterday, I decided to fold and sew each seam of the baskets, as I noticed they started to get floppy when really full and over time. The pink basket uses Pellon® Fusible Thermolam® Plus and Decor Bond® to make it stiff.  I broke 3 needles while sewing the sides…

My mom made the purple, aqua, and gray basket with just Pellon® Fusible Thermolam® Plus and it was much easier to sew. I just folded the seams, sewed 1/4″ from the edge, and stopped 1/4″ before the corner. I love the body it has given them!

This is an easy way to make a pretty basket for any room in your home! I hope you don’t mind me sharing something that’s been around before, it just seemed like good timing. And, since pretty much everything we make is for our personal use, it seems appropriate to share the updates we develop over time.

  1. I am very glad you share older projects. This is sooooo beautiful and handy. I need to make one to store my charm packs or bigger scraps. I’m still a newbie. It has only been about a year that I discovered the wonderful world of ‘blocks’ and sewing blogs – so it is new and very exciting for me. Thanks!!

  2. What beautiful baskets, I love the colors, they are so happy 🙂 The minis on the wall sure do coordinate well. What a sweet looking bedside table!
