Hi Everyone! I am really excited about posting here at Clover & Violet today. My name is Hilary and between being a mommy to my 3 year old son and working a full-time marketing job, I blog over at Young Texan Mama. I have been sewing for almost 10 years, and quilting for just about 2 years. I love everything about sewing and quilting, but I got my start in needlework when my grammo taught me how to cross-stitch and embroider when I was 7 years old.
I’ve done countless cross-stitch kits over the years, and they are all so adorable but I tend to get stuck when it comes to finishing them. I’ve framed several over the years, but I still have some hiding away in totes waiting to be finished. This darling Winnie the Pooh is one of the few that I have had tucked away.
I went over and over in my head about how I wanted to finish this, and then I realized that it would make a darling little block for a pillow.
I used my 6.5″ square ruler to trim down the cross-stitch for my center of the block. I chose a log cabin block because it is a great way to feature Pooh bear in the center, and I thought it was kind of clever because log cabins are in the woods and Pooh bear live in the Hundred Acre Wood 🙂
My initial fabric pull included fabrics from Lizzy House, Cotton & Steel, and April Rhodes. The pillow form I have is 14×14 so I only needed a couple borders around before it would be big enough. I cut 2inch strips and started sewing 🙂
I was hesitant at how this would end up looking, but after I got the first strips added around the block I was in love. The yellow from the Lizzy House Cat Nap collection is just perfect, and I love how the geometric print looked with the cross-stitch.
And of course like I always do, I was so excited about getting some sewing time in that I completely forgot to take more progress pictures as I went. This came together so quickly, I was finished in just about an hour! As y’all can tell, I changed up what fabrics I ended up using. I pulled some of my new Tula Pink Moonshine collection because I just HAD to use the print with the bumblebees!
I cannot wait to make the Tigger cross-stitch I have into a pillow to go with this one. I plan on giving them to my mom for the playroom she has for her grand-babies. that is if my munchkin doesn’t claim them first 🙂
