Shop Update for EU Customers {#VATMESS}

If you live in the European Union, you’ve likely heard about the new VAT changes for digital sellers {if you haven’t, you can read more details here or here}. Basically, the new laws require registration, reporting, and payment of VAT wherever the purchaser is located. Since our shop is located in the US, this is not something we are equipped to deal with. So, for the time being, EU customers will only be able to purchase our PDF patterns through Patterns to Print. All other customers will be able to continue to purchase patterns from our shop as usual.

Patterns-to-Print-Logo-1Patterns to Print is a marketplace run by Samantha of At Home with Mrs. H. Because the expenses associated with the new VAT laws are significant, many micro businesses cannot afford the required cost to keep operating. Instead of just closing her shop because of the new VAT expenses, Samantha created Patterns to Print to sell patterns for indie designers in her same situation, keeping us all in business in the EU.

But, Patterns to Print is not just for EU customers, it’s open worldwide, and you can enjoy a discount of 20% through December 31, 2014 with the code HELLO15 that can be used once per customer.

Also, since Craftsy and Etsy have decided not to take a role in the VAT changes, we will be unfortunately closing our shops with them for the time being. We’re hoping the come around and we will be able to open our shops there once again.

Finally, I want to say again, our shop will remain unchanged for everyone outside the EU! We appreciate your business and we’ll have new patterns launching soon!

  1. Hello, I am the creator of a new multi-vendor website (sort of like Etsy) and I am trying to find ways to put my site above the others. I am very interested in this VAT topic. I was wondering if someone could please message me, as I would like to see if there is a way I can incorporate it into my site?

    Just to tell you a little about the site I created:
    I created SewZU when my wife came to me and told me she was going to stop making and selling children’s clothes due to the cost she was putting out on Etsy, Ebay, Facebook, etc, on listing fees and advertisement. I decided to create this site for her and others like her, so I made it more affordable (no listing fees, 5% sellers fees, and FREE advertisement). We have a screening process to ensure only handmade items are being sold, and we make sure everyone gets their items shown on the main page so it’s fair to everyone not just those who sell the most. I hope this helps. I will read the above link about the VAT but I find it helps to get more information from those affected by the change, so I hope to hear back from you! Thanks for the post!
