Cuddle Rose Hair Clips {Tutorial}

Little Miss’s hair is finally getting long enough to wear hair clips {she still pulls them right out!}, so I thought I’d add to her stash. I have some pieces of Shannon Cuddle leftover from the bibs I made her last summer {I still cannot get over how soft it is!}, so, instead of felt or fabric, I made some cuddle rolled roses. They turned out cute and easy, so I thought I’d share a few pictures on how I made mine up.

I cut a 1 1/4″ strip of cuddle and brushed all the fuzz off the edges. Then, fold it in half with the cuddly side out.

Then, I folded one end at a 45 degree angle and start wrapping the tail around, folding about every 1/4″. Hold in place with a pin while folding {most fabric rose tutorials suggest gluing, but I waited because I found that cuddle isn’t very forgiving when it comes to hot glue, and it slips around pretty easily, so it was best to wait until the end!}.

When my rose was the size I wanted {unlike fabric roses, you don’t need very much to make a good sized rose!}, I cut the tail, put a big dab of hot glue on the back, and glued the tail over the rose.

Then, from the front, I put a little bit of glue between the rounds to keep everything in place.  Then, just glue on to a hair clip of your choice {I ran out of pink clips, so I used a green one, and I think it looks kind of like a little leaf!}.  Here’s my girl sporting her hair clip {this picture was almost impossible to get!}:

I really want to make a bunch more of these.  I love how cute and soft they turned out.  Too bad my little one doesn’t want to wear them…!

Any tips for getting little girls to keep their hair things on?

    I was going to say adorable too! My granddaugher Audreywill be four in April and it is a fight to get her to wear a bow. She submits to a pony tail to keep her hair out of her eyes. This too shall pass.

    For Callee it is all about what she wants at the moment. There will be moments when Norah wants them and others (like now) when not-so-much! They are super cute though!

    So cute! My three girls all hated having things in their hair until somewhere around three. My youngest is two and a half, but she’s starting to keep hairbands in for at least fifteen minutes at a time, so I call that progress! :)

    Oh, she is so cute! Tips, hm. Karina liked when I would go on about how cute she was in her beautiful clippie, but Elena wants no part of it, no matter what. I try putting clips in her hair, but she pulls them out, too. Maybe try a really lightweight one first, and just keep putting it in and then try to distract her immediately so she forgets it’s there. I don’t know, sometimes it’s just a matter of waiting til they put up with it a little better. All the more time to make lots more!

    What a pretty flower!! I can’ keep clips in my little ones either but like the comment above, my 3 yr old will wear a pony tail. My 20 month old will wear a head band very briefly but there is something about clips that they want to pull out immediately.

    Adorable!
    I used to keep barrettes in my daughter’s hair by using a tiny rubber bands (like the kind used for braces) to slide over the bottom part of the clasp. Still not foolproof. She has really fine hair.

    kids like what they see others wear… guess flowers and bows are in your future, just like what your daughter wears…worked for me many, many years ago….also try wearing similar colors of clothing when you try it and make a big deal about how pretty YOU look…

    Too cute. Try wearing one yourself. Maybe she will see it and want to be “like Mommy”
