Pretty Little Key Fob {Tutorial}

For Christmas this year I haven’t made any handmade gifts yet…but, in case you’re looking to make a cute, little, last minute gift, I present the Pretty Little Key Fob, a perfect, last minute stocking stuffer!  You need:

  • 1 – 2″ x 8″ strip of fabric
  • 1 – 3/4″ x 9″ strip of flannel
  • 1 – 1.5″ swivel clip {I bought mine here}, or a key ring

Key Fob Step One

Begin by folding 1/4″ of the fabric on one short end toward the wrong side, this will finish one edge.  Then, fold the fabric in half, longways, right sides together, and sew with 1/4″ seam allowance, back stitching at the beginning and end.

Key Fob Step Two

Press the seam open in the center and turn right side out {I just tugged with my fingers, but you could use a turner too}.  Press flat with the seam in the middle.

Key Fob Step Three

Use a large safetey pin to feed the flannel through the key fob.  Stitch 1/8″ from each edge to secure the flannel in place, stopping 1/2″ from the folded end.  Trim flannel slightly shorter than the length of the key fob.

Key Fob Step Four

Feed the swivel clip or key ring onto the fabric, then stuff the raw end into the opening on the folded end to create a loop.  Pin in place, then stitch in place.  Finish stitching the 1/8″ next to both edges.  Move the seam toward the swivel clip or key ring edge and stitch in place.

Finished Key Fobs

And there you have one cute little key ring, perfect for a stocking stuffer, or just to enjoy for yourself!

  1. Please help – there is no link where you said – ” you can get the hardware here”. Where did you find the hardware for these? I’d love to make them for Valentine’s Day as I’m running out of time for Christmas!
    Thanks for your help! Pippa
