Mini Medallion Series : Border 4

Hello again C&V readers!  Another month brings us yet another border on our mini medallion quilt.  Are you sewing along?  Don’t forget to show us your minis …  Keep sending me links in your comments and tagging me @sewlux on Instagram with #minimedallionqal ! I have really enjoyed seeing all the great versions of this quilt popping up! 🙂

We’re getting very close to finishing our quilt top … and this month’s border is a quick and simple skinny border to set us up for next month when we’ll get more involved with our piecing for the last go-round.  Since this border is super fast and easy, this month will be a great time to catch up if you are just starting our or have gotten a little behind!

Here’s where we left off last month …

Are you ready for our next border?

(Missed out on the center?  Learn more and get the pattern here.  Find the first border here and the second border here and third border here.)

Month 5 – Sew Border #4:

Cut the following:

  • From the EACH of two Grey fabrics (one print & one solid): Cut FIVE 1.5″ x 21″ strips  (You need a total of about 90 inches … if your fabrics are shorter than 21″ from previous month’s, take a minute to figure out the best way to cut to get the right amount.)
  • Update 10/12/14:  I originally told you to cut 9 strips … this was too many!  I have updated this above and in a revised pattern download!  My apologizes for the error.

Sew as follows:

Sew two strips (one grey solid and one grey print) together, right sides together lengthwise.  Press all sets in the same direction (for example, all toward the print).

Subcut pieced strips into 1.5″ wide strips.  (I chose to sew together sets of 4 strips to piece a little faster. 🙂

MiniMedallion-Strips

Piece together two long strips of 28 one-inch blocks.  And two long strips of 30 one-inch blocks.

Next, sew the 28-block strips to the top and bottom of the quilt top.  Press toward the grey.

Then, sew the 30-block strips to the right and left sides.  Press toward the grey.

You’re all done!

I hope you enjoyed making this border with me!  I can’t wait to sew with y’all again next month as we add our last border and finish our quilt!

  1. Hi Chrissy, this medallion is so pretty! I love the colours and the differently pieced borders. Is there a link for all the downloads? I am playing catch-up and would love to download all the borders so when life slows down a bit I can dive right in. Thank you and keep doing great things. <3
