Mon Beau Jardin Blog Tour

|

I’m delighted to be part of the Mon Beau Jardin blog hop sharing Nadra of Ellis & Higgs latest fabric line with Riley Blake Designs. I was especially excited about the vibrant colors. While I’ve been loving soft colors, these were the perfect sorbet hues and I knew right away I needed to make something for my girls with them.

I decided to make matching tote bags for my girls to take their Bible’s to church in. I’ve made a few for friends’ girls and they’d been wanting one of their own. I thought it would be extra special if I let them choose the fabric colors themselves.

All the floral prints in the line are lovely, and the variety in scale makes them excellent for a variety of projects. Since I planned to use a larger piece of fabric I chose the large floral and paired it with two blenders to make the perfect tote. My 4-year-old chose the pink right away, which was no surprise because it’s one of her favorite colors. My 6-year-old pondered her choices a bit more. I was thinking she’d choose the blue background and blenders, but was surprised when she chose the cream instead.

I loved how the two bags turned out, and in the end I loved the cream print with the soft blue accents more than I had thought I would. It turned out so sophisticated and sweet and just the right pop of color. I let my girls pick the color for their elastic as well and thought it was cute that they wanted a contrasting color.

This little bag is modeled from the pattern of my Katie Book Sleeve, I just added the bottom accent before cutting the pattern pieces and then made two handles and sewed those when I added the button loop.

There have been some fabulous projects on the blog tour so far, and Nadra is having a fabric and pattern giveaway next week. So make sure to visit the other talented designers for inspiration and to check in at Ellis & Higgs next week too!

or a pattern to follow? I am a beginner and I always look for simple and easy.
