My Favorite Small Fabric and Quilt Shops

Especially when I sew with my older, favorite fabrics, I get a lot of comments and DMs asking me where I buy my fabric or what fabric I’m using. In this blog post, I wanted to share some of my favorite small fabric shops that I frequent when looking for fabrics. All of these are small shops, many are just a single owner, and they have great service, will get your fabric to you quickly, and are a pleasure to work with! You can read a few details about the shops below, but I wanted to do just an easy-to-see grid of photos so you can get shopping right away!

Favorite Fabric Shops

Why I Love Them

  • Sew Lux Fabric — If you’re looking for a large selection, custom bundles, and want to be inspired with a scrappy look, Sew Lux Fabric is a great place to start. Chrissy and Linda always have quick shipping and are super helpful! I always head here first if I’m looking for a large selection of Moda or any rainbow bundles.
  • Crimson Confection — Jennifer’s shop is my go-to for a variety but smaller selection. She often carries a limited range of different collections, which is great when you want a curated bundle but don’t need every print. The Crimson Confection themed bundles are my favorite.
  • Fieldstone Fabric — Love the feel of Art Gallery Fabrics, Shannon Cuddle or Chenille-It? Head to Fieldstone Fabrics and shop her smaller selection of these amazing textiles. Oh, and keep an eye out for handmade quilter’s mugs – Mallory has a local shop she partners with on occasion!
  • Country & Cloth — Looking for tiny florals or strawberries? Look no further than Country & Cloth! Maria has the sweetest selection, great shipping, and everything arrives in a ribbon! My favorite place to find Atsuko Matsuyama and Yuwa.
  • Catching Stitches — Keri’s has all the Moda precuts, custom bundles, and this is my go-to stop for five-yard quilt backs! I love that you can just order a five-yard cut of fabric at a slight discount and have the perfect quilt back ready and waiting…and I do have a little stack of backings from Catching Stitches that are ready for quilts.
  • Thai Charm — Sandy and I were roomies on an AGF retreat, and she quilts all my quilts, and her shop is one to catch if you’re looking for beautifully curated quilt kits to go with patterns by all your favorite designers. And don’t forget to send your quilt to Thai Charm for quilting when you’re done!

Small Selection is Key

One thing you’ll notice about all these shops is that they don’t carry everything. In a world where we have access to all the things, I’ve really found I gravitate toward shops that have narrowed down the selection for me already, that way I can just choose what I want without having to search through too many fabrics that aren’t my style.

I know there are other amazing shops out there, but these are shops I actually frequent, and since I do get asked often where I find my favorite fabrics, I wanted to share a few! I will probably update this post with a few more. But again, I love having a small selection to go to when I’m shopping.

Shop Local at Little Foot Quilt Shoppe

Little Foot Quilt Shop

If you happen to be north of Pittsburgh, you simply must stop in my local quilt shop, Little Foot Quilt Shoppe! When I first stopped in almost three years ago, with my two girls in tow, I was welcomed into the friendliest quilt shop (I hate to say this, but sometimes when I bring in kids I get the eye from other shops!).

And, on my last visit, I picked up the Little Foot quilting foot and I love it so much! You can see it in the photo with the white fabric above. I have never had such an accurate seam allowance, I love that it’s clear and you can so easily see where your fabric is. I’ll never use another 1/4″, I could not believe the difference it made!

Searching for Something

If I’m looking for something specific that I cannot find at one of these shops, I usually head over to Etsy and put it in the search, and then I just choose a shop that has what I’m looking for.

I hope this helps you with your fabric search and stash building!

Happy Sewing, Jennie xo
