Giant Economy Block Pillow :: Free Pattern

| | |

I’m always excited to sew with fun, new fabric! I made this pillow with Sandra Clemons new fabric Front Yard. I’d made a couple seasonal pillows, but I’ve delayed replacing them with something brighter, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. I made a giant economy block and then added a simple border.

I really love economy blocks, and wanted to showcase the larger prints in the line, so one giant one seemed perfect! I added a little straight line quilting to accent the center square too.

For the back I used two prints (fun!) and an invisible zipper, using the same method as for my Quarter Log Cabin Pillows. I accidentally put the backing on sideways, but I like the burst of color it gives at the top, so I decided to leave it.

The pretty navy print was my favorite, so I made sure to use the most of it. The colors are bright and fresh and Michael Miller Fabrics are so soft to work with! Go check out Sandra’s full collection and the other projects made during the photo hop!

I hope your Monday is off to a good start! I’ve been trying to get all my paperwork together lately, tax season and all, but I’m hoping for a refreshed year of blogging too! Any posts you’re especially interested in?

  1. Love the big pillow, thank you. Making curtains for Great Granddaughters’ room and two large pillows will be perfect.
