Handbag Strap Key Fob Tutorial

Key fobs are one of my go to gifts to make! They’re fun, quick, and everyone seems to enjoy receiving them. I am always asked how I make my key fobs, so a while back I filmed a video showing the technique I use, and I’m finally sharing it!
I am still getting used to filming, so it feels so akward to me, bear with me! But I hope you’ll enjoy this method. I said the fabric requirements in the video, but I’ll list them here so you don’t have to keep watching!
For 1 1/4โ Key Fob hardware you need:
- 4″ x 10″ piece of fabric (you can get fancy and sew two 2 1/4″ x 10″ lengths of fabric together lengthwise and then your key fob will have two fabrics!)
- 2 1/2″ x 10″ piece of Pellonยฎ TP971F Fusible Thermolamยฎ Plus or other batting
For 1 โ Key Fob hardware you need:
- 3 1/2″ x 10″ piece of fabric (you can get fancy and sew two 2″ x 10″ lengths of fabric together lengthwise and then your key fob will have two fabrics!)
- 2″ x 10″ piece of Pellonยฎ TP971F Fusible Thermolamยฎ Plus or other batting
This gives you a bit of a look at the difference between the 1″ and the 1 1/4″ hardware.

As far as where to buy hardware, recently I’ve been very happy with Everything Ribbons on Etsy, Hopscotch Craft Supply, and I purchased the 1″ rose gold from Favored Memories on Etsy.

I hope this helps you in your keyfob-making adventure! Please let me know if you make these and tag me on social media @cloverandviolet and #handbagstrapkeyfobs! Happy sewing!
