I had so many fat quarters piled into my space that I could rarely find what I was looking for, or even more often, just didn’t use them at all because I didn’t want to make the mess any worse than it already was. Then, I saw these perfect fabric boxes on Heather at Quilt Story’s Instagram. I promptly headed to target and picked up twenty of these boxes and got to work folding my fabric into them.

Where To Find Them

I just love how perfectly they fit the fat quarters and that I could see every single one without having to dig through piles or rearrange. The boxes in my photos are from Target, my local store had plenty in stock. These are the small ones I purchased. However, it doesn’t look like they’re shipping right now, but here are some similar ones from Amazon too. The Brightroom Boxes in my photos are 4″ high x 6″ wide x 12″ long. You can watch a video of how I fold them here.

Looking for the larger boxes at the top of my cabinets, you can get those from Target here. They measure 6.5″ high x 9″ wide x 12″ long. I found some similar on Amazon, but they’re 13.5″ deep, so make sure to measure your shelves. You can grab them here.

Benefits of Acrylic Boxes for Fabric Storage

  1. Transparency – See what you have and use your stash more effectively! Also, they’re so pretty to look at!
  2. Stackability – Store your fabric stacked but still easily access what you have on the bottom.
  3. Durability – These boxes are sturdy and will hopefully last a long time.
  4. Protection – See what you have without having to sort through your fabric too much – I’ve found that some of my older fabrics have a lot of fraying on the edges and this will hopefully help them last longer.

  2. I love the way the fabric looks in the acrylic boxes. I, too, have been struggling (like every other person that sews) with fabric storage. Question: Do you use the 6” ruler folding system to fold your fabric for storing in the boxes? I recently learned about how to do that and really like it, however, once the fabric is folded, it is slightly wider than 6”. So how do you fold the fabric to be exact every time, to fit the acrylic boxes? Thank you for your great information.
